FAQs

Estimate vs. Proposal

An estimate is a rough calculation of the expected cost of a project. A proposal is a formal document that outlines a proposed solution to a problem, including a detailed description of the work that will be performed, the expected outcomes, and the cost of labor and materials for this work. We believe that you deserve a proposal, not an estimate, and we work hard to ensure you understand the project and its associated costs.

What type of insurance should I expect a painting company to carry?

It is our priority to protect both you and our team, so we carry workers’ compensation insurance. Though we practice safety, accidents can happen. Like most companies, we carry general liability insurance, but without workers' compensation insurance, you as a homeowner may be responsible for covering the costs of an employee’s medical bills and lost wages. In some cases, the injured worker may also sue you for damages related to their injury. This expense is one that many companies prefer to avoid, but we pay for workers’ compensation insurance in order to reduce your risk and protect our employees.

Do you offer a cash discount?

While we know this is common in our industry, we are convinced that it is the most ethical practice to document all our income. Furthermore, our team members receive a profit share that is based on our income, and a failure to report income will effectively reduce that amount.

Why does paint quality matter?

Paint quality matters because it affects the durability, ease of application, longevity, indoor air quality, value, and overall satisfaction of a painting project. Investing in high-quality paint can lead to better results and a more enjoyable living environment. We are sure to use quality paint from trusted brands such as Sherwin-Williams or Benjamin Moore to ensure we are providing a quality product and service.

Help! My kids are destroying my walls! Is there any “tough” paint?

Scuff-resistant paint proves to be an ideal choice for households with children due to its exceptional durability and resilience against the inevitable wear and tear caused by active and playful young ones. Its high-quality resins, specialized additives, and enhanced pigments create a robust finish that can withstand the scuffs, scratches, and accidental impacts that often occur in kid-friendly spaces. With scuff-resistant paint, parents can rest assured that their walls will maintain their pristine appearance over time, making it easier to manage and clean up after the inevitable messes that come with having children, while also providing a long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing environment for both kids and adults alike.

I bought a new home and already have scuff marks everywhere. What is going on?

Aside from construction residue/dust and lots of foot traffic, there are other possibilities for your scuff marks in your brand-new home. In many cases, the scuff marks are a result of low-quality paint or finishes that are not as durable or scuff-resistant, as these are often used in construction due to their lower cost. This is also likely if the home was newly painted before your move.

What is the best way to choose a color?

Choosing the right paint color for your space can greatly influence the overall atmosphere and aesthetics. Here are some tips to help you make the best choice:

  1. Consider the Room's Purpose: Think about the function of the room. Different colors evoke different emotions and moods. For instance, calming and neutral tones work well in bedrooms, while vibrant colors might be suitable for creative spaces.

  2. Think About Lighting: Natural and artificial lighting can significantly impact how a color appears in a room. Test your chosen colors in different lighting conditions to see how they change throughout the day.

  3. Consider the Size of the Room: Lighter colors tend to make a room feel more open and spacious, while darker colors can make a room feel cozy and intimate. Choose a color that works well with the room's size and layout

  4. Seek Professional Advice: If you're struggling to decide or want expert guidance, consider consulting with our color consultant, Kristin!

In the end, sometimes it makes sense to have some professional help. For less than $100 you can ensure that you choose the right color(s) for your project, ensuring that the significant investment you are making in your home achieves the expectations you have.

What does “sheen” mean in painting?

In the context of painting, "sheen" refers to the level of shine or glossiness that a paint finish exhibits once it has dried. Different types of paint finishes have varying levels of sheen, ranging from matte (low or no sheen) to high gloss (very shiny).

The choice of sheen depends on the specific needs of the painted surface and the desired aesthetic. For example, higher sheen paints are often used in areas that require frequent cleaning, like kitchens and bathrooms, while lower sheen paints might be preferred for creating a more subdued and elegant look in living rooms or bedrooms.
